Well folks, I want to introduce The Gibberish Quote of the Day…or GQD.
You must remember that I’m a fish with the name Cyprinid Cynicalis, and whatever I say here is from a fish’s perspective. In your terms, it would be akin to your metaphor of having a 30,000-foot view…or in other words, having “The Big Picture”. In my terms, it’s simply my observations of you humans being human; it’s taking a critical – and an occasional irreverent – look at you and your behaviors.
Let’s back up with some gibberish from a long time ago in the 18th Century – sometime around 1758. A guy by the name of Carl Linnaeus named your species Homo sapiens, something you’re all familiar with. But do you know what that Latin term means?
It means “wise man” or “the wise ones”. Now if that isn’t gibberish, I don’t know what the hell is!
Let’s look at a more contemporary example, one that took place shortly after President Trump’s inauguration in 2017. It’s dialogue between Chuck Todd with NBC’s Meet The Press and Kellyanne Conway, a senior advisor to President Trump, and it had to do with the size of the crowd at Mr. Trump’s inauguration.
Todd brought into question Sean Spicer’s statement about the size of the crowd, which was not accurate.
Ms Conway responded with, “You’re saying it’s a falsehood. And they’re giving — Sean Spicer, our press secretary — gave alternative facts“.
To which Todd responded: “Alternative facts aren’t facts, they are falsehoods.”
Ms Conway then stated: “Your job is not to call things ridiculous that are said by our press secretary and our president. That’s not your job“.
Todd followed up by asking her to answer his original question about why Sean Spicer would pass on such misinformation.
Conway said: “I’ll answer it this way: Think about what you just said to your viewers. That’s why we feel compelled to go out and clear the air and put alternative facts out there.”

That my friends, is the impetus behind this regular post on the ubiquitous gibberish that goes on among your species. It’s something that gives me great heartburn, because if you can’t come together and act as one, working on behalf of your species and mine…we’re both in trouble.
I’m an optimist, and I hope that by me focusing on and highlighting your incessant gibberish, that it might ultimately result in better communication among yourselves…which hopefully will lead to fewer stresses on the environment.
I’ve long said that you humans must get in charge of yourselves psychologically, that’s individually and collectively if you’re going to avert widespread ecological and social calamity (that’s the 30,000-foot view). In my attempt to try and figure you out, I came across an interesting book by a psychiatrist by the name of Ned Hallowell who wrote Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood through Adulthood. In that book, Mr. Hallowell wrote: “the sense of growing panic, the feeling that gibberish is being passed off as coherent conversation, the fear that the world is engaged in meaningless discourse masquerading as meaningful exchange— these are the blurry states individuals with ADD negotiate everyday [sic].”
As demonstrated by Miss Conway, that “meaningless discourse masquerading as meaningful exchange” is not something only negotiated by people with Attention Deficit Disorder…it’s an all too common occurrence anymore.
And although it may seem like I’m focusing on the Trump Administration, they’re not the only ones guilty of passing on meaningless discourse. As time goes on, I’ll quote others from around the world from all persuasions.
So, it’s just a coincidence that today’s quote of the day for December 13, 2018 does happen to come from President Trump himself, and it has to do with his inability to find someone willing to be his new Chief of Staff: “Everybody wants it. Who doesn’t want to be one of the top few people in Washington, D.C.?”
